Section 3 once again strives to meet the needs of the needy. Every year before Thanksgiving, residents generously donate warm clothing and blankets in memory of the late Bill Prigg. The Dorsey/Williams family has continued the Prigg Family tradition of collecting warm clothing and blankets for those less fortunate, which are then distributed by Martha’s Table, a nonprofit organization
in D.C. The Prigg family, in the many years they lived in what is now the Dorsey/Williams home, always collected warm clothing and blankets for the needy at 3617 Shepherd Street.

This year we have a challenge for all Section 3 residents and a wonderful way to teach children about giving. Kirsten Williams and John Dorsey will be collecting not only warm clothing for Martha’s Table but also laundry detergent, bar soap, all-purpose cleaner and dish soap for A Wider Circle. The food stamp program (SNAP) does not cover cleaning products either for clothing or the home.

With inflation, it’s even harder to afford basic items like soap and detergent. We invite you to take your children shopping for cleaning supplies for another family. And we hope they will join you in finding gently used warm clothing for every age group that you can donate to this wonderful cause. We especially need coats, gloves, mittens, hats, socks, sweaters and blankets.

Put your donations of clothing in plastic bags and the cleaning products in a box. The Dorsey/Williams porch (3617 Shepherd St.) will have separate spaces for each until November 20. We will deliver all donations before Thanksgiving. Join us in helping others so that they too can give thanks!
