Neighborhood Activities

R. Weill and Other Residents at the Party in the Park

Section 3 has an active social life as a community. We believe bringing people together is a way to foster community involvement and a strong sense of place. We love living here and we want you to enjoy our very special neighborhood by offering as many opportunities to meet with and get to know your neighbors as possible. We are always looking for new ways to bring folks together. At the moment, this is the calendar of events we hold each year:

January: After Holiday Get-Together

We are fortunate to have a French restaurant and bar just across Brookville Road in Martin's Additions. Every January we invite Section 3 residents to get together at LeBar for adult refreshments to catch up with old friends and meet new neighbors after the holidays. (2023 event will not be held due to ongoing COVID/flu/RSV concerns)

March: Everybody's Irish Party

Always held on St. Paddy’s Day, this event serves up green food, adult (Irish) beverages as well as water, soda and juice boxes. It's a wonderful way to welcome Spring - although we have held it in the snow, because this is a "no rain date" event.

March / April: Easter Egg Hunt

Usually held on Palm Sunday, a week before Easter, the hunt in the Gazebo Park is limited to children 6 and under. The Easter Bunny always pays a visit too!

May: Annual Elections and Meeting

Always held on the second Tuesday in May every year. Residents are welcome at all Council meetings but everyone is urged to attend at least this one meeting, always held at the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church just after our elections.

Our Annual House Tour

Our Annual House Tour for Section 3 residents only collects gently used towels and travel soaps and lotions for the homeless while providing residents a chance to see neighbors' latest additions and get ideas for their own home. A popular event held on a Sunday in May.

Food Truck Nights

Frequently we invite fabulous food trucks to come to Section 3 so that we can all join in some great food and a picnic in our Gazebo Park weather permitting. Announcements of these visits are made via email to residents but feel free to invite friends and family from outside Section 3.

June: Annual Wine Tasting Event

Three Section 3 residents open their homes to those who sign up for our annual wine tasting event.  Residents taste 3 white wines, 3 red wines, and 3 of something special - we've done different Sangria recipes, ice wines, dessert wines, and sparkling wines… all the wines are specially selected to be about $15-16 and under - so if you like one, it's affordable. All those who sign up pay $15-16 per person for this event usually held on a Saturday night. It's a wonderful way to meet and get to know your neighbors.

July: Welcome New Neighbors BBQ

New neighbors who have moved into the Section over the past year are urged to attend and meet the larger community. They are given a welcome lei and everyone wears nametags so they know who they are meeting. Local BBQ caterers have helped us to make this dinner event a huge success every year. The ice cream man comes and provides free ice cream to all who attend.

September: The Party in the Park

The Party in the Park is our biggest event of the year. It's usually held the third Sunday in the month if no holidays conflict. The event includes a catered dinner, wonderful rides for the kids, a cakewalk with fabulous "cake boss" quality cakes baked by neighbors, and musicians who keep us entertained. Whole streets are closed, neighbors help with the rides to be certain our children are safe, and old and new friends sit at tables on the street eating dinner together and catching up.

October: The Annual Halloween Parade and Food Truck Night

Always held on Halloween, rain or shine. Every year a volunteer parent dresses up for the occasion. Children 6 and under meet at the Gazebo Park and parade up the street with siblings and families following along. We invite two food trucks so everyone young and old can have a treat.

November: The Bill Prigg Memorial Warm Clothing and Blanket Drive

The Bill Prigg Memorial Warm Clothing and Blanket Drive takes place before Thanksgiving so that warm clothing can be provided to Martha's Table, a non-profit providing services to the homeless in Washington, D.C. Named in memory of a long-time resident who devoted many hours to handing out blankets and warm clothing to the homeless in the District, this effort always brings out the best in our residents, great generosity. Usually we collect two full carloads of warm clothing which we donate to the homeless just when they most need warm clothing.
